Commitment to Academic Excellence

Student-athletes at The University of Tennessee are encouraged to make the most out of their academic experience. The academic commitment of the CHAMPS/Life Skills program exists to represent this mission. Student-athletes are encouraged to capitalize on their academic opportunities by making good use of readily available academic support through the Thornton Athletics Student Life Center.

The Thornton Center gives student-athletes the opportunity to work with individual tutors and academic advisors. Student-athletes also have access to a state of the art computer lab, a writing center, and special facilities for the learning disabled. Two separate study hall areas are also housed in the Thornton Center.

Additionally, all first-year student-athletes are encouraged to enroll in a Life Skills course that focuses on the unique demands and responsibilities student-athletes face as they make the transition to college.
